The World's Fastest Indian

One of my favorites is 'The World's Fastest Indian', a film produced in New Zealand, starring Anthony Hopkins. It is the true story of Burt Munro who spent many years turning a 1920 Indian motorcycle into a speed demon. With it, he set a land-speed world record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967. It is of note, that Burt was almost 70 years old at the time he set the record.

The movie was by far one of the best movies I have seen. A good story without a lot of violence and sex. Refreshing for a change. You don't have to be a motorcyclist to really enjoy this one. Anyone will love this movie.

IMHO, 'The World's Fastest Indian' is one of the best motorcycle-related movies of all time and it is available on DVD.

Southern Illinois

A group of riders in Harrisburg, IL have created 'Tag-Along Motorcycle Rides', which is a free service provided to small groups of motorcyclists wishing to visit beautiful Southern Illinois.

They can help you enjoy your ride by providing information on suggested scenic routes to travel, spectacular sites and areas to visit and the best places to eat. They do not conduct tours, however, if you wish and they are available, 1 or 2 would be happy to “TAG-ALONG” to function as a source of information and to make travel suggestions, if requested.

For more information, visit their website.

Indiana Roads

Michael Bishop recently started a web site called IndianaMotorcycleRider.com. It includes videos taken from Michael's Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. (A beautiful bike, by the way).

The videos are well edited and give you an appreciation of the great roads and scenery that Indiana has to offer. Many of us who live on the 'left' or 'right' coasts have this vision of Indiana and the other mid-west states as flat land with corn fields. These videos will dispel that vision and give you the urge to get on the bike and head to Indiana for some good ridin'.

In addition to the videos, Michael has some photos, a discussion forum, a webcam, and a chat forum for his visitors. Be sure to check out IndianaMotorcycleRider.com. It will be worth your time.

Motorcycle Roads in Europe

If you planning on vacationing and riding in Europe, I recommend that you check-out BestBikingRoads.com.

It has over 400 roads and routes listed in Western Europe and Scandinavia. The roads are submitted by riders and include a map, description, and rating. It is a relatively new website, so the number of roads listed should continue to grow.

In order to submit a road or route, you must register as a member (registration is free). You can, however, view road information without registering.

The website is very professional and well laid out. It is worth a visit even if you are not planning a vacation or riding in Europe.
